Day 1: Arrival in Berhampur – Transfer to Mahendragiri

Arrive in Berhampur (Brahmapur) and meet our tour representative at the railway station. Set off for Mahendragiri, the second-highest peak in Odisha at 1,501 metres, roughly 85 to 100 km and around 3 to 4 hours by road via Tumba to the Burakhat Pass, followed by a winding 10 to 12 km hairpin climb to the summit. Check in at the Mahendragiri Nature Camp near the top. Overnight stay at Mahendragiri.

Day 2: The Summit – Ancient Temples and the Triple Peaks

A full day at the summit, revered as the site where the sage Parasurama meditated, with ancient temples across the mountain’s three peaks said to have been built by the Pandavas. Weather changes quickly here, and a clear view over the Eastern Ghats rewards patience. Overnight stay at Mahendragiri.

Day 3: Descent via Gandahati Waterfall – Transfer to Ghodahada

After breakfast, check out and descend, stopping at Gandahati Waterfall, roughly 30 km from Mahendragiri and one of the few in the region flowing year-round. Continue via Digapahandi to Ghodahada. Check in at the Ghodahada Nature Camp on the reservoir’s edge, known for its mugger crocodile rearing programme. Take a boat ride and enjoy the sunset over the dam. Overnight stay at Ghodahada.

Day 4: Ghodahada Morning – Transfer to Jiranga (Chandragiri) – Padmasambhava Mahavihara

A relaxed morning boat ride and a visit to the nearby Ujjaleswar cave temple. After breakfast, check out and transfer to Jiranga, popularly known as Chandragiri or “Mini Tibet,” roughly 60 to 70 km through Digapahandi and past Taptapani’s sulphur hot spring. Check in at a simple guesthouse in the Tibetan settlement. Visit the Padmasambhava Mahavihara – the largest Buddhist monastery in eastern India – and spend the evening in the settlement’s quiet, terrace-farmed valley. Overnight stay in Jiranga.

Day 5: The Long Transfer – Jiranga to Daringbadi

After an early breakfast, check out and begin the trip’s longest and most demanding single transfer – Jiranga in Gajapati district to Daringbadi in the Kandhamal hills. This crosses genuinely remote, lightly travelled rural Odisha, with realistic driving time running 6 to 8 hours or more depending on route and road condition; this should be planned as a full day devoted entirely to the road, with a very early start and no sightseeing attempted alongside it. Arrive in Daringbadi in the evening, check in at the Daringbadi Nature Camp or a hill resort, and settle in for a quiet, tired first night in the cool hill air. Overnight stay in Daringbadi.

Day 6: Daringbadi Sightseeing – Pine, Coffee and Valley Viewpoints

A full day recovering the trip’s pace among Daringbadi’s spread-out sights: the pine jungle and coffee and pepper plantations, the Emu farm at Kirikuti, Lover’s Point where the Doluri river winds through the valley, the Butterfly Park, and the sunset viewpoint. In peak winter, dawn can bring frost, rare anywhere else in Odisha. Overnight stay in Daringbadi.

Day 7: Daringbadi – Berhampur Departure

After breakfast, check out and transfer back to Berhampur, roughly 115 to 125 km and around 4 hours by winding Ghat road, in time for your onward train. Overnight journey onward.
