Day 1: Arrival in Berhampur – Long Ascent to Daringbadi

Arrive in Berhampur (Brahmapur) and meet our tour representative at the railway station. Set off for Daringbadi in the Kandhamal hills, roughly 115 to 125 km and around 4 hours by winding Ghat road, with an early start to reach the hills in daylight. Check in at the Daringbadi Nature Camp or a hill resort. Settle in by a bonfire as the temperature drops after dark. Overnight stay in Daringbadi.

Day 2: Daringbadi Sightseeing – Pine, Coffee and Valley Viewpoints

A full day among Daringbadi’s spread-out sights: the pine jungle and coffee and pepper plantations, the Emu farm at Kirikuti, Lover’s Point where the Doluri river winds through the valley, the Butterfly Park, and the sunset viewpoint. The pleasure here is the cool climate and scenery rather than a checklist. In peak winter, dawn can bring frost, rare anywhere else in Odisha. Overnight stay in Daringbadi.

Day 3: Transfer to Mandasaru – The Silent Valley of Odisha

After breakfast, check out and transfer to Mandasaru, roughly 30 to 33 km and around an hour by road via Simandbadi and Linguma – a remote gorge ecosystem locally known as Gdang Kutti and called the Silent Valley of Odisha for its stillness. Check in at the Mandasaru Valley Nature Camp, a hilltop forest-department property run by a local women’s self-help group, with a panoramic view over the gorge. In the afternoon, walk to the Pisogrundu (Piso Glundu) waterfall via a watchtower viewpoint, continuing on a further short trek to the waterfall’s base for those able and willing. Watch the colours change over the hills at sunset. Overnight stay in Mandasaru.

Day 4: Transfer to Phulbani – Putudi Waterfall and the Kandhamal Hill Town

After breakfast, check out and transfer to Phulbani, the administrative headquarters of Kandhamal district, roughly 75 to 90 km and around 2.5 to 3 hours by road through remote hill country via Raikia. Check in at a Phulbani hotel. In the afternoon, visit the Putudi Waterfall, about 15 km from town, where the Bada Salunki river drops roughly 100 metres through forest and bare rock, and the Pillasalunki Dam just 3 km from the town centre. Overnight stay in Phulbani.

Day 5: The Long Descent – Phulbani to Gopalpur, Cold Hills to Warm Sea

After an early breakfast, check out and begin the trip’s longest single transfer – Phulbani to Gopalpur-on-Sea, roughly 175 to 180 km and around 5 hours or more by road, descending from the hills back through the Berhampur corridor to the coast. This is the day the whole trip has been building toward – the cold, remote Kandhamal hills give way to warm sea air by evening – and it should be treated as a full travel day with an early start, not a light finish to the hill leg. Check in at your beachfront hotel or the OTDC Panthanivas on arrival. If time and energy allow, take a short evening walk on the sand. Overnight stay in Gopalpur.

Day 6: Gopalpur at Leisure – Beach, Lighthouse and Rest

A full, deliberately unhurried beach day, and the trip’s real rest after five demanding days in the hills. Sunrise over the bay is Gopalpur’s signature; the rest of the day suits swimming, walking the calm golden sand, and the colonial-era lighthouse for a panoramic view over town and the Bay of Bengal. Fresh Ganjam seafood and a slow pace are the point of this day – resist the urge to add more sightseeing. Overnight stay in Gopalpur.

Day 7: Gopalpur – Berhampur Departure

A final relaxed beach morning before breakfast. Check out and transfer to Berhampur, a short 16 km and around 30 to 40 minutes by road, in time for your onward train. Overnight journey onward.
