Day 1: Arrival in Bhubaneswar – Transfer to Keonjhar – Sanaghagara Waterfall

Arrive in Bhubaneswar and meet our tour representative at the airport or railway station. Transfer to Keonjhar (Kendujhar), roughly 223 to 235 km and around 4 to 5 hours by road. Check in at your hotel or a nature camp near town. In the late afternoon, visit Sanaghagara Waterfall, just 5 to 6 km from Keonjhar town, a gentle 30-metre two-stage drop into a well-maintained forest park. Overnight stay in Keonjhar.

Day 2: Badaghagara Waterfall and Gonasika

After breakfast, visit Badaghagara Waterfall, about 9 km from town, a taller 60-metre drop through dense forest. In the afternoon, drive to Gonasika, roughly 26 km further, revered as the mythological source of the Baitarani river. Return to Keonjhar for the evening. Overnight stay in Keonjhar.

Day 3: Transfer to Tensa – Mining Township in the Hills

After breakfast, check out and transfer to Tensa in Sundargarh district, roughly 100 to 160 km and around 3 to 4 hours by road via the Lahunipara junction, where the route splits toward the Tensa and Barsuan mining belt. Check in at the Tensa Nature Camp. Tensa is a genuine working iron-ore mining township – home to a Steel Authority of India operation since 1960 – set in cool, misty hill country that has earned it the local nickname “Mini Shimla of Odisha,” an unusual and genuine juxtaposition of heavy industry and untouched wilderness worth experiencing for exactly what it is. Spend the evening settling into the crisp hill air. Overnight stay in Tensa.

Day 4: Khandadhar Waterfall – Odisha’s Second-Highest Falls

A full day dedicated to Khandadhar Waterfall, roughly a 2-hour drive from Tensa Nature Camp, where the Korapani Nala plunges 244 metres – the second-highest waterfall in Odisha after Barehipani in Similipal, and among the tallest in India. The final approach requires walking through forest on foot, and the sheer scale of the falls, framed by dense Bonai Forest Division greenery, is genuinely spectacular. This is a site to be treated with real caution rather than casual enthusiasm – see the notes below before this day is planned or sold. Return to Tensa in the evening. Overnight stay in Tensa.

Day 5: Tensa at Leisure – Gudguda and the Hill Country

A gentler day recovering from yesterday’s demanding excursion. Explore the quieter corners of the Tensa Valley – Gudguda, a scenic spot near Khandadhar known for its own natural beauty, the Shanti Stupa, and the area’s natural springs – at an easy pace, or simply enjoy the cool hill air and rolling forested hills that make Tensa such an unexpected retreat. Overnight stay in Tensa.

Day 6: Tensa – Bhubaneswar Departure

After an early breakfast, check out and begin the long transfer back to Bhubaneswar, roughly 300 km and around 6 to 7 hours by road. This is a substantial final travel day and should be planned as such, with an early start. Arrive in Bhubaneswar in the evening for your onward train or flight.
