Day 1: Arrival in Coimbatore – Transfer to Valparai

Arrive in Coimbatore and meet our tour representative at the airport or railway station. Transfer to Valparai, driving south through Pollachi and climbing the Anamalai Hills via the Sholayar ghat road, one of the most dramatic ascents in Tamil Nadu with 40 numbered hairpin bends rising through dense deciduous and semi-evergreen forest. The drive takes approximately 3 to 3.5 hours and the forest closes in noticeably from the twentieth bend onwards, with lion-tailed macaque, Nilgiri langur and Malabar giant squirrel commonly seen along the road before the town is reached. Check in at your stay in or around Valparai by early afternoon. Spend the evening on a naturalist-led boundary walk through the estate forest fringe, reading the forest edge as the light drops over the Anamalai Hills. Overnight stay in Valparai.

Day 2: Lion-Tailed Macaque Trail and Anamalai Forest Fringe

After an early breakfast, head out on a naturalist-led drive through the estate roads and forest patches around Valparai specifically to locate lion-tailed macaque troops, one of the most endangered primates in India and among the most reliably seen in the Valparai landscape where the estates and the forest fragments create a mosaic habitat that the troops move through predictably. Continue to Manamboli, the birding hotspot on the Valparai plateau edge where the forest meets the estate boundary and the bird activity across the canopy and the understorey is consistently good in the morning hours. Spend the afternoon at Sholayar Dam and the forest road above the reservoir, where elephant, gaur and sambar move along the water margins as the day cools. End the evening at a forest edge viewpoint above the Anamalai valley. Overnight stay in Valparai.

Day 3: Grass Hills Fringe – Anamalai Tiger Reserve Edge – Departure to Coimbatore

Start early with a drive to the Grass Hills National Park fringe and the Anamalai Tiger Reserve edge accessible from Valparai, where the shola-grassland mosaic opens into some of the most intact high-altitude forest in the Western Ghats. Subject to current forest department access, walk the forest boundary trail for birding and wildlife signs before returning to the property for breakfast and check out. Transfer back to Coimbatore via the 40 hairpin bends and Pollachi for your departure.
