Day 1: Arrival in Bangalore – Transfer to Valparai

Arrive in Bangalore and meet our tour representative at the airport or railway station. Transfer to Valparai, driving south through Mysuru and Coimbatore before turning towards Pollachi and climbing the Anamalai Hills via the Sholayar ghat road. The drive takes approximately 8 to 8.5 hours and the final ascent through the 40 numbered hairpin bends is itself a gradual and dramatic shift in ecosystem, temperature and forest character that announces Valparai well before the plateau is reached. Lion-tailed macaque, Nilgiri langur and Malabar giant squirrel are commonly seen along the upper bends in the late afternoon. Check in at your estate stay by early evening. Spend the remaining light on a short boundary walk along the forest fringe. Overnight stay in Valparai.

Day 2: Lion-Tailed Macaque Trail, Manamboli and Sholayar Dam

After an early breakfast, head out on a naturalist-led drive through the estate roads and forest patches around Valparai to locate lion-tailed macaque troops. The estate mosaic constrains their movement to predictable corridors and local naturalists with troop-tracking experience can locate them with reasonable consistency in the early morning hours. Continue to Manamboli, the birding hotspot on the Valparai plateau edge where the forest meets the estate boundary and the bird activity across the canopy and understorey is consistently good through the morning. Spend the afternoon at Sholayar Dam and the forest road above the reservoir, where elephant, gaur and sambar move along the water margins as the day cools. End the evening at a forest edge viewpoint above the Anamalai valley. Overnight stay in Valparai.

Day 3: Tea Estate Walk, Colonial Bungalow Belt and Grass Hills Fringe

After breakfast, spend the morning on a guided walk through one of the working tea or coffee estates above Valparai, covering the plucking fields, the shade tree lines and the processing shed if the estate permits a visit. The estate roads above the town pass through some of the most intact colonial plantation infrastructure remaining in South India, with bungalows, workers quarters and processing facilities that have changed little in character since the early twentieth century. In the afternoon, drive to the Grass Hills National Park fringe and the Anamalai Tiger Reserve edge accessible from Valparai, where the shola-grassland mosaic opens into some of the most intact high-altitude forest in the Western Ghats. Subject to current forest department access, walk the forest boundary trail before returning via the estate viewpoints above the Valparai town for the evening light across the Anamalai Hills. Overnight stay in Valparai.

Day 4: Monkey Falls – Anamalai Fringe – Departure to Bangalore

Start early with a final naturalist-led session on the forest boundary or a second lion-tailed macaque trail if the naturalist recommends a different corridor from Day 2. Continue to Monkey Falls on the descent road, a waterfall on the Sholayar ghat where the stream crosses the road and the surrounding forest holds good bird and primate activity in the early morning. After breakfast and check out, descend the 40 hairpin bends towards Pollachi and Coimbatore before joining the Mysuru highway back to Bangalore, approximately 450 to 480 km and 8 to 8.5 hours, for your departure.
