Day 01: Murshidabad Heritage and Hazarduari Palace

Arrive at the Murshidabad area railway station and meet our tour representative, check in at your hotel and break for lunch; in the afternoon visit the 19th-century Hazarduari Palace now a museum of arms, paintings and royal furnishings, followed by the Imambara and Madina Mosque where you can learn about the setting in which Murshidabad’s silk trade grew under the nawabs and Kasimbazar merchants, then walk along the Bhagirathi at dusk to enjoy the riverside atmosphere. Day 02: Murshidabad Silk and Weaving Visit

After breakfast drive to a pre-arranged weaving cluster in or near the Berhampore area to meet a weaving family at the loom, watch how raw silk yarn is prepared and set up and see a saree being woven by hand while discussing differences between plain silk and woven-pattern work and the local Baluchari tradition; after lunch visit a cooperative or weavers’ showroom to view finished sarees side by side, understand handloom versus powerloom and the Silk Mark label and purchase directly if you wish, and later visit Katra Mosque and Khushbagh or optionally stop at a nearby bell-metal or craft centre. Overnight stay in Murshidabad.

Day 03: Murshidabad Kathgola and Motijheel

After breakfast visit Kathgola Garden and its Jain temple and then Motijheel, the horseshoe-shaped lake that once held the nawab’s household palace, keep time for any last-minute saree purchases, then check out and transfer to the railway station for your onward journey to Kolkata or beyond.
