Day 1: Arrival in Mandsaur – Pashupatinath & Shivna Ghats

Mandsaur town has direct trains from Indore and lies about 85 km from Ratlam Junction, the wider-network railhead. Check in at your hotel, then head to the Pashupatinath Temple on the banks of the Shivna River, the spiritual heart of the town, built around the rare eight-faced (Ashtamukhi) Shivalinga, roughly 3.5 m tall and weighing about 4.6 tonnes, dating to the 5th-6th century. Spend time at the riverside complex, the Hanuman and Janaki Nath shrines, and the ghats, then take in the evening aarti if timings allow. Overnight stay in Mandsaur.

Day 2: Sondani Pillars, Yashodharman Museum & Mandsaur Fort

After breakfast, drive the short 4 km to Sondani village for the Yashodharman Victory Pillars, the 6th-century columns marking King Yashodharman’s defeat of the Huna ruler Mihirakula, one of the most significant historical monuments in this part of India. Continue to the Yashodharman Archaeological Museum, which holds the exquisite sculptures recovered from Hinglajgarh Fort, and to the remains of Mandsaur Fort (Dashapura). In the afternoon, explore the town’s older quarters and, for those interested, the Jain temple site to the north-east. This is a day of quiet, serious heritage rather than spectacle. Day 3: Dharmarajeshwar Excursion – Departure

After an early breakfast, check out for a day excursion to Dharmarajeshwar in Garoth tehsil, the striking rock-cut temple complex carved from a single rock face, often likened to a smaller Ellora, with adjacent caves. Depending on interest and time, this pairs with the nearby Dhamnar Buddhist caves. Return toward your departure point, Ratlam or Indore, for your onward journey. Note that Dharmarajeshwar sits about 106 km from Mandsaur town, so this is a full-day excursion, and travellers short on time can instead keep Day 3 local and depart earlier. Trip ends on departure.
