Day 1: Mangalore – Udupi

Depart Mangalore by road, approximately 60 to 65 km and 1 to 1.5 hours via NH66. Check in at your hotel by early afternoon. Visit Sri Krishna Matha, founded by the 13th-century Vaishnavite saint Madhvacharya, along with the adjoining Anantheshwara Temple. In the evening, head to Malpe Beach for a walk along the shore and sunset over the Arabian Sea. Overnight stay in Udupi.

Day 2: St. Mary’s Island, Manipal and Kaup

After an early breakfast, take the ferry from Malpe harbour to St. Mary’s Island, known for its distinctive hexagonal basalt rock formations, seasonal and weather permitting. Return by late morning, then spend the afternoon in Manipal, visiting End Point and the Coin Museum. In the evening, visit Kaup Beach and its 1901 lighthouse. Overnight stay in Udupi.

Day 3: Udupi Saree Weaving Trail

After breakfast, visit a local weaver cooperative or society, arranged through a local contact, ideally connected to one of the region’s known revival initiatives, to see the Udupi saree woven on traditional Malabar Frame looms, introduced to this coast by German Basel Mission weavers in the 19th century. Watch the distinctive warp-starching technique that gives the fabric its crisp finish, and browse genuine handloom pieces, plain or checked cotton bodies with a contrasting, often darker pallu and border. Overnight stay in Udupi.

Day 4: Udupi – Mangalore Departure

After a relaxed breakfast, a final morning for any saree shopping or a last walk down Ratha Beedi. Check out and depart on the return drive to Mangalore, arriving by early afternoon.
