Day 1: Arrival in Malda – Old Malda Sightseeing

Arrive at Malda Town railway station and meet our tour representative. Check in at your hotel and freshen up. In the afternoon, drive to Old Malda, the river port on the Mahananda that served the region long before English Bazar grew into today’s town. Visit the Jami Masjid and the Nimasarai Tower, then walk the old ghats as the light drops over the river. Return to the hotel for dinner and an early night, as Day 2 is the long one. Overnight stay in Malda.

Day 2: Gour and Pandua Heritage Circuit

After an early breakfast, drive south to Gour, the ruined capital of Bengal’s sultans, roughly 15 km from Malda town. Begin at Dakhil Darwaza, the ceremonial gateway of the old citadel, then walk to Firoz Minar, the tall victory tower, and Baro Sona Masjid, the great mosque with its long arcade of domes. Continue to Qadam Rasul, Lukochuri Darwaza, Chamkati Mosque and Gumti Gate, and finish at Ramkeli, the village associated with Sri Chaitanya’s visit in the early 16th century.
After lunch, drive north to Pandua, roughly 20 km beyond Malda town, the sultanate’s earlier capital. Visit Adina Mosque, one of the largest mosques of medieval Bengal, and the Eklakhi Mausoleum, a domed brick tomb with fine terracotta work. Return to Malda in the evening. Overnight stay in Malda.

Day 3: Malda Museum and Departure

After a relaxed breakfast, check out and visit the Malda Museum in English Bazar, which holds sculptures, terracottas and manuscripts from Gour and Pandua. It gives context to what you walked through the day before. Travellers with a late departure and an interest in archaeology can add Jagjivanpur, the site of a Buddhist monastery of the Pala period, about 40 km from town. Transfer to Malda Town railway station for your onward journey.
