Day 1: Arrival in Berhampur – Transfer to Mahendragiri

Arrive in Berhampur (Brahmapur) and meet our tour representative at the railway station. Set off for Mahendragiri, the second-highest peak in Odisha at 1,501 metres, roughly 85 to 100 km and around 3 to 4 hours by road via Tumba to the Burakhat Pass, followed by a winding 10 to 12 km hairpin climb to the summit. Check in at the Mahendragiri Nature Camp near the top. Spend the evening in the quiet of a working ashram community, cold and still at altitude. Overnight stay at Mahendragiri.

Day 2: The Summit – Ancient Temples and the Triple Peaks

A full day at the summit, revered in the Mahabharata and the Brahmanda Purana as the site where the sage Parasurama meditated, with ancient temples across the mountain’s three peaks said to have been built by the Pandavas. Weather changes quickly here, and a clear view over the Eastern Ghats rewards patience. Overnight stay at Mahendragiri.

Day 3: Descent via Gandahati Waterfall – Transfer to Ghodahada

After breakfast, check out and descend, stopping at Gandahati Waterfall, roughly 30 km from Mahendragiri and one of the few in the region flowing year-round. Continue via Digapahandi to Ghodahada. Check in at the Ghodahada Nature Camp on the reservoir’s edge. Spend the late afternoon at the water – known for its mugger crocodile rearing programme and framed by forested hills – with a boat ride and a fine sunset over the dam. Overnight stay at Ghodahada.

Day 4: Ghodahada Morning – Transfer to Sonapur Beach

A relaxed morning boat ride on the reservoir and a visit to the nearby Ujjaleswar cave temple. After breakfast, check out and transfer to Sonapur (Pati Sonapur) Beach near the Andhra Pradesh border, roughly 50 to 60 km via Berhampur. Check in at the Sonapur Eco Retreat or a nearby beach nature camp. Spend the late afternoon on one of Odisha’s quietest, least developed stretches of coast, at the point where the Bahuda river meets the sea, watching the sunset over largely empty sand. Overnight stay at Sonapur.

Day 5: Sonapur Morning – Transfer to Gopalpur

A relaxed morning at Sonapur – a walk along the shoreline, birdwatching around the river-sea confluence, or a look at the nearby fishing village. After breakfast, check out and transfer to Gopalpur-on-Sea, roughly 40 to 45 km by road. Check in at your beachfront hotel or the OTDC Panthanivas. Spend the afternoon on Gopalpur’s calm, swimmable golden sand, ending at the colonial-era lighthouse for a view over town and the Bay of Bengal – a noticeably more developed, comfortable beach than the one just left behind. Overnight stay in Gopalpur.

Day 6: Gopalpur at Leisure – Beach, Rest and Optional Rushikulya

A full, deliberately unhurried beach day – the trip’s real rest after a demanding first half. In turtle season, an optional excursion runs to the Rushikulya coast (about 45 km), subject to access restrictions and the unpredictable arribada. Otherwise, fresh Ganjam seafood and Gopalpur’s old port-town character fill the day well. Overnight stay in Gopalpur.

Day 7: Gopalpur – Berhampur Departure

A final relaxed beach morning before breakfast. Check out and transfer to Berhampur, a short 16 km and around 30 to 40 minutes by road, in time for your onward train. Overnight journey onward.
