Day 1: Arrival in Berhampur – Long Ascent to Daringbadi

Arrive in Berhampur (Brahmapur) and meet our tour representative at the railway station. Set off for Daringbadi in the Kandhamal hills, roughly 115 to 125 km and around 4 hours by winding Ghat road, with an early start to reach the hills in daylight. Check in at the Daringbadi Nature Camp or a hill resort. Settle in by a bonfire as the temperature drops after dark. Overnight stay in Daringbadi.

Day 2: Daringbadi Sightseeing – Pine, Coffee and Valley Viewpoints

A full day among Daringbadi’s spread-out sights: the pine jungle and coffee and pepper plantations, the Emu farm at Kirikuti, Lover’s Point where the Doluri river winds through the valley, the Butterfly Park, and the sunset viewpoint. The pleasure here is the cool climate and scenery rather than a checklist. In peak winter, dawn can bring frost, rare anywhere else in Odisha. Overnight stay in Daringbadi.

Day 3: Transfer to Phulbani – Putudi Waterfall and the Hill Town

After breakfast, check out and transfer to Phulbani, the administrative headquarters of Kandhamal district, roughly 105 to 112 km and around 3 hours by road. Check in at a Phulbani hotel. In the afternoon, visit the Putudi Waterfall, about 15 km from town, where the Bada Salunki river drops roughly 100 metres through forest and bare rock, and the Pillasalunki Dam just 3 km from the town centre. Phulbani itself sits at around 2,500 feet, bounded by the Salunki river, with a genuine tribal-heritage character worth a quiet evening walk. Overnight stay in Phulbani.

Day 4: The Long Descent – Phulbani to Rambha, Hills to the Chilika Lagoon

After an early breakfast, check out and begin the trip’s longest single transfer – Phulbani down through the Berhampur corridor to Rambha at the southern end of Chilika Lake, roughly 150 to 160 km and around 4 to 4.5 hours by road. This is a full travel day and should be planned as one, with an early start. Check in at the OTDC Panthanivas or a lakeside resort. In the afternoon, set out by boat across the calm southern lagoon to the island cluster – Breakfast Island (Barkuda) with its colonial ruins, Honeymoon Island, and a stop at a lake viewpoint – for a gentle, scenic close to a long day, with lake sunsets backed by the Eastern Ghats. Overnight stay in Rambha.

Day 5: Rambha Morning – Short Transfer to Gopalpur

A slow morning by the lake – a further look at the islands, or simply time to recover from the previous day’s long drive. After breakfast, check out and transfer to Gopalpur-on-Sea, a short 40 to 45 km and around an hour by road. Check in at your beachfront hotel or the OTDC Panthanivas. Spend the late afternoon on the calm, swimmable golden sand, ending at the colonial-era lighthouse for a view over town and the Bay of Bengal. Overnight stay in Gopalpur.

Day 6: Gopalpur at Leisure – Beach, Rest and Optional Rushikulya

A full, deliberately unhurried beach day – the trip’s real rest after a demanding first half. Sunrise over the bay, swimming, walking the sand, and fresh Ganjam seafood fill the day well on their own. In turtle season, an optional excursion runs to the Rushikulya coast (about 45 km), subject to access restrictions and the unpredictable arribada. Overnight stay in Gopalpur.

Day 7: Gopalpur – Berhampur Departure

A final relaxed beach morning before breakfast. Check out and transfer to Berhampur, a short 16 km and around 30 to 40 minutes by road, in time for your onward train. Overnight journey onward.
