Day 1: Arrival in Berhampur – Transfer to Rushikulya – The Hatchery and the Rookery Coast

Arrive in Berhampur (Brahmapur) and meet our tour representative at the railway station. Transfer to the Rushikulya coast near Purunabandha and Gokharkuda, roughly 30 to 35 km and around an hour by road. Check in at a simple coastal stay or a Berhampur/Gopalpur base used for the visit. In the afternoon, visit the turtle hatchery run with the local Rushikulya Sea Turtle Protection Committee, where rescued eggs are monitored under forest-department supervision, and walk the long, quiet beach that forms one of the world’s great olive ridley rookeries. This first day is about understanding the site and the conservation effort behind it. Overnight stay near Rushikulya.

Day 2: Nesting or Hatching Window – Guided, Season-Dependent Observation

The heart of the trip, and entirely governed by the season and the forest department’s rules. In the mass-nesting or hatching window, and only where and when the authorities permit access, join a guided, low-impact observation — the arribada of nesting females, or, later in the cycle, the dawn emergence of hatchlings scrambling to the sea — under red-filtered light, at a respectful distance, following every conservation instruction. When the river mouth itself is closed to visitors during peak nesting, observation shifts to permitted stretches and the hatchery, with the story of the rookery told from the edges rather than the core. Outside the nesting season, the day is a quiet beach-and-conservation visit without turtles. Overnight stay near Rushikulya.

Day 3: Morning Beach – Berhampur Departure

A final quiet morning on the coast — the beach at first light, a last hatchery visit, or a stop for Ganjam handloom in Berhampur — before breakfast. Check out and transfer back to Berhampur, around 30 to 35 km and an hour by road, in time for your onward train. Overnight journey onward.
