Day 1: Arrival in Mumbai / Pune – Transfer to Velas

Arrive in Mumbai or Pune and meet our tour representative at the airport or railway station. Transfer to Velas, a small village on the Ratnagiri coast reached via Mandangad, where Olive Ridley turtle conservation has been run with the local community since the early 2000s. Accommodation here is in village homestays rather than hotels. After checking in, visit Bankot Fort at the mouth of the Savitri river, and walk the Velas beach in the late afternoon while the hatchery is explained by the conservation volunteers. Overnight stay in Velas.

Day 2: Hatchling Release, Harihareshwar and Bankot

An early start for the beach, since hatchling releases happen soon after sunrise when the sand is still cool. Releases depend entirely on which nests hatch that morning, and there may be none. Volunteers manage the process; visitors watch from a marked distance and photography rules are enforced. After breakfast, cross by the Bagmandla-Vesvi ferry to Harihareshwar for the Kalbhairav Temple and the rock shelf walk around the headland, or visit Kelshi and its Mahalaxmi Temple on the southern side. Return to Velas for the evening, and to the beach again at last light if a second release is expected. Overnight stay in Velas.

Day 3: Anjarle – Mumbai / Pune Departure

An early beach visit if releases are scheduled. After breakfast, check out and drive south to Anjarle, around 40 km away, where a second conservation site operates on the beach below the village. Visit the Kadyavarcha Ganpati Temple on the cliff above the creek. Transfer back to Mumbai or Pune for your onward journey.
