Embark on a flavorful 2N/3D Udupi Food Trail Tour that immerses you in the vegetarian temple cuisine and vibrant street eats of Udupi. From traditional banana-leaf thalis and iconic dosa stops to coastal seafood at nearby Malpe, this curated 2N/3D Udupi Food Trail Tour blends heritage, local markets, and legendary filter coffee into one satisfying culinary escape.
Depart Mangalore by road, approximately 60 to 65 km and 1 to 1.5 hours via NH66. Arrive by late morning and check in. Lunch is a traditional Udupi banana-leaf meal, the full sattvic thali with sambar, rasam, palya, and payasam, served in the style that gave the cuisine its name. In the afternoon, visit Sri Krishna Matha to understand where this culinary tradition actually began, in the temple’s own kitchens, followed by a walk down Ratha Beedi, Udupi’s old market street, for local sweets and snacks. In the evening, dosa and filter coffee at Mitra Samaj, one of Udupi’s oldest eateries, set within the temple complex itself. Overnight stay in Udupi.
An early breakfast trail through two or three local eateries, idli, vada, upma, Mangalore buns, and pineapple sheera, tasting the range of what a proper Udupi breakfast actually covers rather than settling for one stop. Late morning, a visit to a local sweet shop for payasam varieties and traditional confections. In the afternoon, head to Malpe for fresh coastal seafood, fish fry, prawns, and other Konkani coastal specialties, a genuinely different culinary tradition from the vegetarian temple food explored the day before. Evening at leisure, with a final filter coffee stop of the day. Overnight stay in Udupi.
A relaxed final morning back on Ratha Beedi for any specialties missed, or a return visit to a favourite spot from the past two days. Check out and depart on the return drive to Mangalore, with an optional stop at a well-regarded roadside eatery en route if time allows, arriving by early afternoon.

The Udupi Food Trail was one of the most enjoyable short trips I’ve taken from Mangalore. What impressed me most was the contrast between Udupi’s traditional vegetarian cuisine and the fresh coastal seafood at Malpe. The breakfast trail was excellent because we could taste several local favourites instead of eating at just one place. Ocean6 Holidays Travel Agent did a great job putting together an itinerary that felt authentic, relaxed and genuinely food-focused.
