Day 1: Arrival in Pune – Transfer to Tapola

Arrive in Mumbai or Pune and meet our tour representative at the airport or railway station. Transfer to Tapola, a village on the Shivsagar backwaters of the Koyna reservoir, around 25 km from Mahabaleshwar down a narrow descending road. The last stretch is slow and winding. After checking in at your hotel, walk down to the water and take a boat ride on the backwaters, where the reservoir runs between forested ridges. End the day on the shore as the light goes off the hills. Overnight stay in Tapola.

Day 2: Vasota Fort or the Backwater Circuit

An early start for travellers taking the Vasota Fort trek. The fort sits inside the Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary and is reached by boat from Bamnoli across the reservoir, followed by a forest climb of roughly three hours each way. Entry requires forest department permission, a registered guide, and a return before the prescribed cut-off time. Travellers not trekking can instead spend the morning on the water, with kayaking and boating run by local operators, then drive up to Mahabaleshwar for Arthur’s Seat, Venna Lake and the market, returning to Tapola by evening. Overnight stay in Tapola.

Day 3: Tapola – Pune Departure

After breakfast, check out from the hotel. Take a last stretch of the backwater road, or stop at the Mahabaleshwar viewpoints and a strawberry farm on the way up, depending on your departure time, then transfer back to Mumbai or Pune for your onward journey.
