Day 1: Arrival in Agra – Transfer to Dholpur

Arrive in Agra and meet our tour representative, then transfer to Dholpur, a town on the Chambal River sitting almost midway between Agra and Gwalior, in Rajasthan’s eastern-most district. Check in at your hotel, then visit Machkund Temple, about 4 km away, an ancient pilgrimage site built around a sacred water tank ringed by smaller shrines. In the evening, walk through Dholpur town to Nihal Tower, a 150-foot clock tower begun in 1880, and the Chaurasi Khambon ki Chhatri, the town’s 84-pillared cenotaph. Overnight stay in Dholpur.

Day 2: Van Vihar, Shergarh Fort & Talab-e-Shahi

A morning nature drive through Van Vihar Wildlife Sanctuary, a dry deciduous forest reserve on the Vindhyan Plateau, watching for chital, sambar, nilgai, sloth bear and leopard. In the afternoon, visit Shergarh Fort, built in 1540 by Sher Shah Suri on the site of an earlier Hindu fortress, before continuing to Talab-e-Shahi, a lake and garden built in 1617 as a hunting lodge for the young Prince Shah Jahan, a magnet for migratory waterfowl through winter. Overnight stay in Dholpur.

Day 3: Chambal River Safari – Departure

A morning boat safari on the Chambal River, part of a long-running gharial conservation programme, passing through the region’s dramatic ravines and a glimpse of village life along the banks. After breakfast, check out and transfer back to Agra for onward departure.
