Day 01: Arrive Bhubaneswar
On the first day of your Odisha tribal tour, you will arrive at Bhubaneswar airport and be driven to your hotel for refreshment. Your exploration of the capital city, Bhubaneswar, begins with a visit to the Tribal Museum to gain insights into the tribes of Odisha and their crafts. Next, visit the Khandagiri and Udayagiri Jain Caves. If time permits, explore Lingaraj Temple, Rajarani Temple, and Mukteswar Temple. In the evening, visit Ekamrahaat for Odisha art and handicrafts. Overnight stay at Bhubaneswar.
Day 02: Bhubaneswar – Gopalpur
On the second day, post breakfast, drive to Gopalpur on Sea with an en-route visit to Chilka Lake. Gopalpur on Sea is a retreat for sea worshippers and boasts one of the magnificent beaches of Odisha. Later, visit Chilka Lake (Barkul), which features a channel leading into the sea and a main body with a muddy bottom rich in organic matter. Upon reaching Gopalpur, check into your hotel, freshen up, and rest. Spend the rest of the day exploring nearby areas, interacting with locals, and enjoying street food. Return to your hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 03: Gopalpur – Rayagada (Tuesday)
In the morning, drive to Rayagada. En route, visit Taptapani’s hot spring and the Gunupur region to see the housing of Saura tribes and their famous wall paintings. Check into your hotel upon arrival and stay overnight.
Day 04: Rayagada – Jeypore
In the morning, visit the weekly market of Desia Kondh and Dongaria Kondh tribes. Explore the Jaharia Paroja village before continuing to Jeypore. Overnight stay at Jeypore.
Day 05: Jeypore
Visit the weekly market of Bonda, Gadaba, and Didai tribes. Later, explore Gadaba village. In the morning, visit the Bonda tribal market at Onukadeli where locals sell homemade country alcohol. You will also meet Godoba, Paraja, Dedehi, and Mali tribes who come to this market. Return to the hotel and stay overnight.
Day 06: Jeypore: Village Hike (Desia)
In the morning, enjoy a half-day hike to nearby Godaba, Paraja, and Mali villages. Return to the camp to relax. In the evening, enjoy the Dhemsa dance performed by the host community and join in to match your steps with the local drum and flute tunes.
Day 07: Departure to Bhubaneswar
On the last day of your Odisha tribal tour, depart for the Gupteswar region in the morning and hike by the riverside to visit Dhuruba tribes. In the afternoon, visit the weekly market at Baligaon and then board the train at Koraput for Bhubaneswar. Alternatively, return to Bhubaneswar by vehicle.

Driving to Rayagada, we had the opportunity to visit Taptapani’s hot springs, which added a refreshing break. The interaction with the Saura tribes was fascinating, particularly their vibrant wall paintings. The accommodations in Rayagada were comfortable, and the hospitality was commendable.
The journey to Gopalpur was picturesque, particularly our stop at Chilika Lake. The tranquility of the lake, coupled with its rich biodiversity, made for a perfect backdrop. Gopalpur’s stunning beach was an excellent place to unwind after the drive, and the local street food was a tasty treat. The day was well-paced, allowing ample time to relax and explore.
