Start your day with breakfast at your hotel. At 8:30 AM, your professional tour guide will meet you to begin your tour of the world’s greatest monument, Angkor Wat. Unlike other temples in Cambodia that face east, Angkor Wat faces west. It is the largest temple in the world, with a volume of stones equal to that of the Cheops Pyramid in Egypt.
Next, you will explore the Great Angkor City of the Khmer Empire, which thrived during the kingdom’s highest period. Begin at the South Gate of Angkor Thom, where you can enjoy the beautiful views of the Tonle Om River surrounding the city. Visit Bayon Temple, a richly decorated Khmer temple built in the late 12th or early 13th century by King Jayavarman VII. Located at the center of Angkor Thom City, Bayon Temple is a state Buddhist temple.
In the palace enclosure, visit Baphuon, an 11th-century mountain temple built as the state temple of Suryavarman I and dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. The temple is known for its intricate carvings covering every surface. Continue to the Terrace of the Elephants, used by King Jayavarman VII as a platform to view his victorious returning army. The Terrace of the Leper King, located in the northwest corner of the Royal Square of Angkor Thom, was built in the Bayon style under Jayavarman VII. Its modern name comes from a 15th-century sculpture of the Hindu god Yama, the god of death.
Take a break for lunch at a local Khmer restaurant near Srah Srang, where you can enjoy special local cuisine (at your own expense). After lunch, visit the hidden jungle temple of Ta Prohm. Built in the late 12th century in the Bayon style, Ta Prohm is famous for its photogenic and atmospheric combination of trees growing out of the ruins and its jungle surroundings, making it one of Angkor’s most popular temples.
In the late afternoon, climb Bakheng Mountain to view the beautiful sunset from the Hindu mountain temple. Afterward, return to your selected hotel for leisure time and an overnight stay.
Enjoy your day of exploring the magnificent temples of Angkor!
Begin your day with breakfast at the hotel. At 8:30 AM, your tour guide will pick you up from the hotel lobby to start the tour. First, visit Tonle Sap, the largest freshwater lake in Asia. Board a wooden boat to visit the floating villages where residents live and make their livelihoods on floating houses. Enjoy the sights of the floating market, school, pagoda, and health center while taking in the fresh air.
Next, visit the Senteurs d’Angkor Workshop, where you can see how they produce oil, balm, soap, and other products from natural plants and flowers. Afterward, head to West Baray, the largest hand-cut water reservoir in Cambodia. This area is a popular spot for locals to relax and spend their evenings or weekends with family and friends, enjoying local food.
In the evening, visit the street food market at Street 60, where you can observe local people gathering and enjoying their evening after a hard day’s work. Finally, return to your hotel for an overnight stay in Siem Reap.
