Day 1: Bhubaneswar Temple Circuit – Transfer to Chandaka – Evening in the Forest

Meet our tour representative in Bhubaneswar and spend the morning and early afternoon on the city’s temple circuit – Lingaraj Temple, Mukteswara Temple, and the Khandagiri and Udayagiri rock-cut caves – since Chandaka sits close enough to the city that this trip naturally begins with Bhubaneswar rather than skipping past it. In the afternoon, transfer to Chandaka-Dampara Wildlife Sanctuary, a short 20 to 25 km and around 45 minutes by road, and check in at the Deras or Godibari nature camp by the Deras reservoir. Spend the evening at the lake, with a campfire and dinner cooked with local ingredients. Overnight stay at Chandaka.

Day 2: Chandaka Safari, Nature Trail and Birdwatching

An open-vehicle safari, roughly two hours, through the sanctuary’s mixed acacia, bamboo and semi-evergreen forest, entering from one of the four gates – Godibari, Deras, Bharatpur or Dampara – in search of the wild elephants the reserve was created to protect, along with sambar, mugger crocodiles at the waterholes, and the occasional leopard, though sightings of any of these are genuinely a matter of luck. In the afternoon, take a guided nature walk or a short birding session near the Deras reservoir, home to well over 100 recorded bird species, or try the light cycling trails the camps offer. All activity inside the sanctuary must conclude by 3:30 pm, as the forest is vacated ahead of the evening period when elephants move more freely. Overnight stay at Chandaka.

Day 3: Morning Walk – Bhubaneswar Departure

A quiet final morning at the reservoir or a short additional nature trail before breakfast. Check out and transfer back to Bhubaneswar, a short 20 to 25 km and around 45 minutes by road, in time for your onward train or flight – with time, if wanted, for a stop at Nandankanan Zoological Park or a last temple visit en route. Overnight journey onward.
