Day 1: Arrival in Bangalore – Transfer to Vattakanal

Arrive in Bangalore and meet our tour representative at the airport or railway station. Transfer to Vattakanal, driving south through Krishnagiri and Salem before climbing the Palani Hills via the Batlagundu ghat road and continuing past Kodaikanal town to the quieter southern edge of the plateau. The drive takes approximately 7 to 7.5 hours and the ascent through the ghats shifts the temperature and vegetation noticeably within the first few kilometres of the climb. Vattakanal sits roughly 3 km beyond Kodaikanal town on a narrow road that drops below the plateau rim into a small valley of its own, and the change in character from the main town is immediate. Check in at your stay by early evening. Spend the remaining light on the Dolphin Nose trail near the property, watching the western valley below the mist line. Overnight stay in Vattakanal.

Day 2: Vattakanal Trails and Berijam Lake

After an early breakfast, walk the Dolphin Nose trail from the property to the viewpoint, one of the better short walks on the plateau with a clear drop into the western escarpment and the Palani Hills forest below. Return and drive to Berijam Lake, the most ecologically intact water body on the Kodaikanal plateau, accessible only with a forest department permit and forest department vehicle. The shola forest road to Berijam offers some of the best birding on the plateau. Return for lunch and spend the afternoon at Pillar Rocks and Guna Caves before ending the day at Green Valley View on the eastern escarpment. Overnight stay in Vattakanal.

Day 3: Kukkal Caves, Mannavanur and Grassland Circuit

After breakfast, drive to Kukkal village and the Kukkal Caves, a cluster of megalithic dolmen burial chambers on the open grassland above the shola line. Continue to Mannavanur Lake, a quiet reservoir surrounded by eucalyptus and grassland where the Toda community maintains a small settlement nearby. Drive to the Kodaikanal Solar Observatory, one of the oldest solar observatories in Asia and still operational, before returning via the grassland road through Pambar Shola. End the day at Fairy Falls and the Pambar River gorge on the plateau edge. Overnight stay in Vattakanal.

Day 4: Silent Valley – La Saleth Church – Transfer to Kotagiri

After an early breakfast, start with Silent Valley View Point on the western edge of the plateau and La Saleth Church, a colonial-era hilltop church above Vattakanal with an unobstructed view across the valley and the plains below. Check out and drive through the tea estate roads from the Kodaikanal plateau towards Kotagiri, a journey of approximately 35 to 40 km and 1.5 to 2 hours through some of the quietest estate country in the Nilgiris. Check in at your stay in Kotagiri by early afternoon. Spend the rest of the day exploring Kotagiri town, the least commercialised of the three Nilgiri hill towns, on foot. Overnight stay in Kotagiri.

Day 5: Kotagiri Sightseeing – Karikaiyur and Kodanad

After breakfast, drive to Karikaiyur, a small village perched above one of the least-visited waterfall valleys in the Nilgiris. Walk to Karikaiyur Waterfall viewpoint, a sheer drop of over 300 metres into the valley below, best seen before the afternoon mist closes in. Spend time on the grassland ridge above the fall before continuing to Kodanad Viewpoint, which offers one of the clearest unobstructed views across the Coimbatore plains on a clear morning. Return via Catherine Falls viewpoint, one of the tallest two-tier falls in the Nilgiris, before ending the day back at the property. Overnight stay in Kotagiri.

Day 6: Longwood Shola – Departure to Bangalore

Start early with a walk through Longwood Shola, one of the better-preserved shola forest patches accessible from Kotagiri, where the canopy closes quickly and the birding is reliably good in the early morning hours. Return to the property for breakfast and check out. Transfer to Bangalore via Mettupalayam and Mysuru, a drive of approximately 320 to 340 km and 6 to 6.5 hours, for your departure.
