Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Negombo
Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by a representative and transferred to your hotel in Negombo. Negombo is an oft-overlooked seaside gem with incredible seafood and is just a stone’s throw from the international airport. Its charms include coastal beauty, a relaxed atmosphere, and leftover colonial architecture from Dutch and Portuguese settlers. Enjoy dinner on your own and overnight stay at the hotel in Negombo.
Day 2: Negombo to Kandy
After breakfast, proceed to Kandy, the Hill Capital. Kandy, literally the “City on the Hills,” is named for its natural protection by water, rocks, and jungles. It was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings before falling to the British in 1815 and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city’s center of attraction is the golden-roofed Temple of the Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. The Kandy Lake, built by the last King Sri Wickramarajasinghe in 1806, offers a prominent view of the city. Day 3: Kandy to Nuwara Eliya
After breakfast, proceed to Nuwara Eliya. En route, visit a tea garden, tea factory, and waterfall. Nuwara Eliya, nestled in a wooded basin at the foot of Mount Pidurutalagala (Sri Lanka’s highest peak), sits at 6,183 feet above sea level and has a cool, crisp climate unknown elsewhere in Sri Lanka. This region is a serene retreat from the hustle and bustle of Colombo and resembles a piece of the English Lake District. The area is known for its tea plantations, waterfalls, and caves. Day 4: Nuwara Eliya to Kataragama
After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to Kataragama. Visit the Kataragama Temple, a complex venerated by Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, and the Veddas (indigenous people of Sri Lanka). It is dedicated to the Buddhist guardian deity ‘Kataragama deviyo’ and the Hindu War God Kathirkamam. Lunch on your own. Enjoy dinner on your own and overnight stay at the hotel in Kataragama.
Day 5: Kataragama to Bentota
After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to Bentota. Bentota is a famous coastal resort town in the southwest of Sri Lanka, located 65 kilometers from Colombo, featuring a wide variety of tourist attractions. Enjoy lunch on your own. Visit the Madu River for a safari. The Madu River flows into the sea at Balapitiya and is surrounded by mangrove forests, providing habitat for various aquatic plants, crabs, shrimps, fish, invertebrates, and other animal life including crocodiles. Day 6: Bentota to Colombo
After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to Colombo. Colombo is a fascinating city with a comfortable blend of East and West, and a mix of the past and present. It is the commercial capital of Sri Lanka, located only 35 km south of the country’s international airport. The city offers many attractions, shopping opportunities, and a variety of cuisines. Day 7: Departure
