Astronomy at Leh, Nubra and Pangong

Day 1: Arrival in Leh

Arrive in Leh and check into your hotel. Spend the morning resting and acclimatizing to the high altitude. In the afternoon, explore Leh Market, Shanti Stupa, and Leh Palace. Enjoy an early dinner and rest to adjust to the altitude. Overnight stay in Leh.

Day 2: Leh Local Sightseeing

Start your day with a visit to Hemis Monastery, Thiksey Monastery, and Shey Palace. After returning to Leh for lunch, spend the evening stargazing near Shanti Stupa or at a designated dark sky spot. Overnight stay in Leh.

Day 3: Leh to Nubra Valley

Drive to Nubra Valley via Khardung La Pass, one of the highest motorable roads in the world. Upon arrival in Nubra Valley, check into a camp or guesthouse in Hunder. Visit the sand dunes and enjoy a camel ride. Spend the evening stargazing in the clear skies of Nubra Valley. Overnight stay in Nubra.

Day 4: Nubra Valley Exploration

Visit Diskit Monastery and the giant Maitreya Buddha statue in the morning. In the afternoon, drive to Sumur or Panamik to visit the hot springs. Return to Hunder in the evening and continue stargazing. Overnight stay in Nubra.

Day 5: Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake

Depart early for Pangong Lake via the Shyok route, weather permitting. Upon arrival, check into a camp near the lake. Enjoy the mesmerizing sunset and a stargazing session by the lake. Overnight stay at Pangong.

Day 6: Pangong Lake to Leh

Witness the sunrise at Pangong Lake before having breakfast. Drive back to Leh, visiting Chang La Pass along the way. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and rest. Spend the evening stargazing at a suitable dark sky location. Overnight stay in Leh.

Day 7: Leh Free Day

Relax and explore Leh at your own pace. Optional activities include visiting local markets, indulging in local cuisine, or taking a short hike. In the afternoon, visit Magnetic Hill, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, and the Hall of Fame. Enjoy a final stargazing session in Leh. Overnight stay in Leh.

Day 8: Departure from Leh

Transfer to the airport for your departure flight.

Special Instructions:

• Only post-paid mobile phones work in Leh-Ladakh, preferably BSNL, Airtel, Vodafone. As phones may not work at many places, keep your family members informed well in advance not to worry if they fail to contact you.
• You would hardly find any cellular network in most of the areas in Leh. BSNL works better here, however you would find Airtel signals also at some places.
• Carry good sunscreen lotion, sunglasses (goggles), and a cap with you to avoid sunburn as sun rays are direct and can burn your skin.
• Don’t forget to carry a photo ID with you. Passport is the best option. Voter Cards & Aadhaar Cards are also valid.
• Leh has only a few ATM machines where you can withdraw cash. But mostly these machines witness long queues of customers and run out of cash most of the time. So carrying enough cash is advisable.
