Upon arrival at Paro Airport and completion of immigration formalities, you will be warmly greeted by your Bhutanese guide. From the airport, you will be transferred to Bhutan’s capital city, Thimphu. Enroute, make a stop at Chuzom, the confluence of the Thimphu (Wang Chhu) and Paro (Pa Chhu) rivers. Here, you will witness three stupas built in Bhutanese, Tibetan, and Nepalese styles. Upon arrival in Thimphu, check in at your hotel. After breakfast, embark on a tour of Thimphu City. Your first stop will be Kuensel Phodrang, where the gigantic Buddha Dordenma Statue sits atop a hill offering magnificent views of Thimphu Town. Next, visit the National Memorial Chorten, a stupa built in 1974 to honor the third King, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, and observe people offering prayers as they circumambulate the stupa. Continue to the Folk Heritage Museum, a traditional house that provides insight into Bhutanese lifestyle and artifacts from rural households. You will also visit Changangkha Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Thimphu, and the Motithang Takin Reserve, a wildlife reserve center for Takin, Bhutan’s national animal. After breakfast, you will drive to Paro. Enroute, stop at the Royal Botanical Garden at Lamperi, Bhutan’s first botanical park. Continue your drive to Paro, with another stop at the Immigration Check Point in Hongtsho Village to return your permit. Also, visit Tamchog Lhakhang, situated between Thimphu and Paro, built in the 13th century by Thangthong Gyalpo, also known as the Iron bridge builder. Upon arrival in Paro, visit Ta Dzong, an ancient watchtower overlooking Paro Valley, now converted into a national museum. Then visit Paro Rimpung Dzong, also known as Fortress of the Heap of Jewels, built during the time of Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1646. Walk down to Nemi Zam Bridge, a traditional covered cantilever bridge connecting Paro town to the Dzong. Later, check in at the hotel. The evening is free for leisure. Overnight at the hotel in Paro.
After breakfast, visit Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), home of gods and monks located at an altitude of 3,100 meters in the Upper Paro Valley. According to legend, Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated at this monastery. The hike to the monastery takes about 5-6 hours to complete. As the hike to Taktsang Monastery is steep and involves stiff stairs, it is not recommended for small children and elderly people. On the way back, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred temples in Bhutan. Overnight at the hotel in Paro.
After breakfast, take an excursion to Chele La Pass, the highest motorable pass in Bhutan, which separates Paro Valley and Haa Valley. From here, you can see Paro Valley on one side and Haa Valley on the other. Continue your drive to Haa Valley. Visit the 7th century Lhakhang Karpo, also known as the White Temple, Lhakhang Nagpo, also known as the Black Temple, and Haa Wangchuk Lo Dzong. Later, return to the hotel.
