Upon arrival at Paro Airport, after completing the immigration formalities at the exit door, you will be greeted by your Bhutanese guide. You will then be transferred to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan, covering a distance of 65 kilometers which takes approximately 2 hours. On the way, you will stop at Chuzom, the confluence of the Thimphu (Wang Chhu) and Paro (Pa Chhu) rivers. Here, you will see three stupas built in Bhutanese, Tibetan, and Nepalese styles. Once you arrive in Thimphu, check in at your hotel. The evening is free for leisure activities. Overnight stay at the hotel in Thimphu.
After breakfast, embark on a tour of Thimphu city. Your first stop will be Kuensel Phodrang, where you will find the gigantic Buddha Dordenma Statue perched atop a hill, offering magnificent views of Thimphu town. Next, visit the National Memorial Chorten, a stupa built in 1974 to honor the third King, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, which is frequently circled by people offering prayers. Following this, explore the Folk Heritage Museum, a traditional house that provides insight into Bhutanese lifestyle and artifacts from rural households. Continue to Changangkha Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Thimphu, and then to the Motithang Takin Reserve, a wildlife reserve center for the Takin, the national animal of Bhutan. In the evening, visit Tashichho Dzong, also known as the Fortress of the Glorious Religion. After breakfast, drive to Paro, which is about 65 kilometers from Thimphu and takes approximately 2 hours. En route, stop at Tamchog Lhakhang, a temple built in the 13th century by Thangthong Gyalpo, also known as the Iron Bridge Builder. Continue your drive to Paro. Upon arrival, visit Ta Dzong, an ancient watchtower overlooking the Paro Valley, built in 1951 and now converted into the National Museum. Then, explore Paro Rimpung Dzong, also known as the Fortress of the Heap of Jewels, built during the time of Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1646. Walk down to Nemi Zam Bridge, a traditional covered cantilever bridge connecting Paro town to the Dzong. Finally, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred temples of Bhutan. After breakfast, set off to visit Taktsang Monastery, also known as the Tiger’s Nest. This monastery is located at an altitude of 3,100 meters in the Upper Paro Valley. According to legend, Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated at this monastery. The hike to Taktsang Monastery takes about 5-6 hours to complete. Due to the steep hike and stiff stairs, it is not recommended for small children and elderly people. Return to your hotel for the night. Overnight stay at the hotel in Paro.
