Explore its charming alleys, iconic tiles, and experience the feeling of “saudade” amidst the beautiful Atlantic light. Visit the Belem neighborhood, from where Portuguese navigators set sail in the 15th century. Enjoy free time in the afternoon to walk and explore the Bairro Alto and its viewpoint, or consider an optional trip to Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril. In the evening, you’ll return to the hotel from the vibrant Restauradores Square, known for its bars and cafes. Overnight stay in Lisbon.
Depart early for southern Portugal, crossing the Tagus River over its long bridge amidst beautiful landscapes. Arrive in the Algarve and explore the historic city of Lagos, known for its port and historic center within ancient walls. There will be time for lunch. In the afternoon, journey to Cape St. Vincent, the westernmost point of continental Europe, with windswept cliffs and a chance to photograph the Sagres fortress. Spend time in Albufeira, relaxing on its beaches or exploring its lively historic center. Overnight stay in Albufeira or a neighboring city in the Algarve.
Travel to Faro for a leisurely stroll. Continue into the Alentejo region and visit Mértola, a walled town-museum on the Guadiana River, with its large castle and whitewashed houses. Then, proceed to Évora to visit the Chapel of Bones (admission included), and explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its medieval palaces, Gothic religious buildings, and ancient Roman temple. Travel through Alentejo’s landscapes, stopping in Marvão, a picturesque walled town with panoramic views, and Castelo de Vide, with its castle and old Jewish quarter where you can visit the medieval synagogue (now a museum). After lunch, continue to Tomar, renowned for the Convent of Christ (admission included). Before arriving in Fátima, stop in Aljustrel, the village where the three young shepherds who witnessed Virgin Mary´s apparitions were born, to see Lucia’s house. Upon arrival in Fátima, enjoy free time at the Sanctuary of Fátima, and watch the candlelight procession if you wish (not held in winter). Dinner will be included. Overnight stay in Fátima.
Travel north to Porto, arriving around 11:00 a.m. Take a 50-minute boat ride along the Douro River on a traditional Portuguese “Rabelo”, admire the city from the water and drink a delicious Port wine. Afterwards, you will have free time. Overnight stay in Porto.
