Visited Athirapally Falls on May 2014, definitely the water was not in it’s full but quite attractive and hopefully seen 80% of it’s beauty and luckily it rained too. I got a great bath on the rocks in the flowing waters towards the falls, great experience.
And then come the horrible part of it, you have to go down around 150-180ft to view the waterfalls from below, my wife and kid didn’t go as I felt it will be difficult way up, so I left all alone and going down the winding roads of the mountain just by walking was not such a great problem, and then it is a matter of 15 minutes I have seen one of the best scene of my life Athirapally Waterfalls in full force, and then comes the rain and there is no proper plain land to see the waterfalls from below, you have to climb small rocks and stand on them which are quite slippery and then see the waterfalls.
Now it is a life ending journey for me to way back up and it was raining like anything and at one time I felt my lungs will come out or they’ll burst now. At god’s grace I finally came to top and my wife was literally crying thinking I couldn’t make it up. Even no mobile networks was working there at that moment. It was horrible and still today I sometime got breathing problem and it reminds me of that day. So, my request please go down only if you are having good stamina and if you do regular exercise else don’t go down.
By scenic beauty it is exceptional, by accessibility it is quite deep from the main roads. You can find numerous food shop in and outside the area but foods are really of bad quality. Depends I’m from East India so I might be wrong but we can hardly have anything there that well.
The ticket counter is bit far from the main entrance, and it is just on the road on the left hand side when you are going towards the falls, it is quite visible with a good crowd in front of the counters when you are going towards it. Tickets were Rs.20/ head as I remember.
Hope you’ll like the falls, it is really a great one.
